Operation Warm Up
FBC Seaman Works with the North American Mission Board's ARM
Read below on how your church can help out!

My name is Alberta Bradshaw from Seaman FBC, in Adams County, Ohio.  Our church is getting involved with ARM (Appalachian Regional Ministries).  We are at the edge of the Appalachian area, on the highway, so we feel we can be a resource in getting supplies from Ohio to the Appalachian region.

Currently, we are holding a coat campaign, we are calling Operation Warm Up.  We are collecting new and nearly new used coats, bed linens, towels, and some high school scientific calculators (TI83).  We will be making a weekend trip October 22-23 to two different towns in WV and also to Pike County in Kentucky, where there has been some recent flooding, to deliver these items.

I invite you to join with us in this venture.  This is an excellent opportunity for Sunday School classes, youth groups, small groups, etc, to participate by collecting some of the items for distribution.  We would like to collect as many new coats as possible - it is easy to collect used coats but a higher challenge to collect NEW ones.  We are praying the Lord will provide us with 250 coats to deliver.  As well, the TI83 scientific calculators are expensive, so, maybe a group could go together and donate toward purchasing them.

If you feel led to participate in our venture in any way, please let me know.  We would appreciate your help, and so would the people in the Appalachian area.  We will be doing our final packing for our trip on October 20th, so we would need to gather donations by the weekend before that, October 17-18th.   Please forward this message to all churches and groups who might be able to participate.

Get the 'mud-out'
Southern Baptist Association’s disaster relief program lends helping hand
By Lori Kersey | The Tribune, Published Friday, August 6, 2010

Lawrence County residents affected by recent floods got some help cleaning up this week.Volunteers from the Mud-Out Unit, a part of the Southern Baptist Association’s disaster relief programs, have been working in the area since last week.

“We feel the calling of the Lord to go out and help people,” Scott Klepinger, team leader, said.

Klepinger and his wife Debbie come from New Carlisle. Other members of the group came from Lewisburg and Loveland. Sixteen people from the group have worked in the area at different times this week.

“Some could only give us an afternoon, some one day. Some two days,” Klepinger said. Others came for a few days, left and came back.

The team worked on three houses on State Route 93, County Road 128 and County Road 108 that were damaged in recent flooding. The workers have cleaned out mud from basements and removed rotting material from the houses.

Larry Bays, of Loveland, uses a crowbar to pry away damaged drywall from a home affected by heavy flooding on Route 93. Volunteers from the Southern Baptist Association’s Disaster Relief group have been in the area for a week helping homeowners who were affected by the flooding.

Klepinger said more than helping to repair damaged houses, the project gives them a chance to talk to people about their faith.

“This is what we do but the Lord Jesus Christ tells us to spread the word,” he said. “This gives us an opportunity to go out and talk to people.”

The team, which has been spending nights at First Baptist Church in Ironton, plans to go home today.

“You can only last so long and I dare say that every one of us is over 60,” he said.

In their three years of involvement with the team, the Klepingers have been to several natural disaster sites including areas damaged by flooding, tornados and hurricanes.

Larry Bays, of Loveland, has been involved in the team for two years.

“We share Christ, that’s our main goal, just to help people and to give people a cup of cold water in Jesus’ name,” Bays said.

Multi-Housing Ministry News

In  October NAMB Missionary Bob Burton and Mulit-Housing Specialist, Mike Wright will lead a Round Table Discussion on  multi-housing ministry. ANYONE from SHBA and  the surrounding region are invited to attend.  E-mail or call Southern Hills Baptist Association and so we can add you to our list.

The term "multihousing" refers to both attached homes and those in close proximity with shared amenities. Sixty percent of the unchurched population in North America, some 120 million people, lives in multihousing communities. Most of these individuals to not attend any church. Left unevangelized, that figure could rise because the numbers of people in multihousing communities, which include apartments, condominiums, manufactured housing, and public housing, is increasing.

There are dozens of multi-housing communities in our association and these communities are one of our biggest mission fields in our association.

Go here for more information on multi-housing. http://www.churchplantingvillage.net/site/c.joJMITOxEpH/b.4667441/k.D095/Multihousing_Church_Planting.htm

Here's how to find ALL apartment communities in your county:
